Venetian Carnival

I'm not a friend of carnival celebrations, not at all! And normally I try to ignore these days as good as I'm allowed to! But I was fascinated of the Venetian way to celebrate these days when we stayed there in 2005 during the carnival days. Everywhere you see those people, wearing masks and the most wonderful, colorful and imaginative fancy dresses. When you want to take a photo of them, they immediately pose for you; but there is no noise, no music, there are no words spoken...a silent feast of colours...

What a beautiful watercolour, lovely colours. I also find the masks etc a little frightening, I have never been to Venice, would love to go ! But you say the carnivals are silent too...which makes the atmosphere even more strange somehow ! I have just finished a ghost story by Susan Hill " The Man in the Picture" based around a Venetian carnival, and having read that I find the thought of a carnival in Venice even more earie ! Love the painting though !! Take care, Ellie

Gorgeous! I was thee once at Carnival time too, but the snowy weather sort of put a damper on things. This painting is truly festive.

When I was 16 I told a little (ok, big) lie and found myself at Carnaval in Guymas, Mexico for a weekend with friends. I had the most memorable adventure! I don't know if I could ever re-live that experience but your lovely painting brought all the memories back to me and filled me with nostalgia for days of innocence and living life in the moment!
