Woodpecker - Buntspecht - Flaggspetter

I had no time to paint because of this and this. But today, I created bird no.4, a woodpecker. Just when I had finished breakfast, I saw him when I looked outside the kitchen window. He reminded me about my birdie project, and - indeed - his scientific name is " Dendrocopos major", bird for the letter "D"! So I had no excuse anymore, I had to paint a woodpecker.

I'm enjoying your bird series, Claudia, and this little one with his bright patches of surprising red are a real treat :)

Another beautiful bird painting in a charming format. Thats a good idea for your alphabet series to use either latin or common name. How lucky to see him out of your window. We are more likely to spy the green woodpecker (Picus viridis) in this part of England.
